SPRINGFIELD, VA- Mr. Eric Douglas Culbreth, 53, of Springfield, VA, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at Inova Hospital, in Alexandria, VA.

He was born on September 11, 1959, in Cleveland County to the William Culbreth and the late Eunice Ellis Culbreth.
Eric was a 1978 graduate of Burns High School in Lawndale where he was a band member, football player and excelled academically earning a Proctor and Gamble scholarship to Georgia Tech University. Eric earned a degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech and was immediately hired by the U.S. Government. He remained a dedicated employee for over 30 years working in the U.S. Patent and Department. Eric loved God and was a member of Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield where he was member the choir.
Some of his other pastimes included traveling which included several cruises and trips here in the U.S. and abroad such as Norway, China and the Holy Land.
Eric was always a good natured person who had a great sense of humor and great smile. He was a person of integrity who loved to encourage people and truly enjoyed seeing and hearing about others having success in life. Children especially took a special liking to him.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Andrew Lee Culbreth, III and his step-mother who helped rear him, Gladys Culbreth.
Left to cherish his memory is his father, William Culbreth, Sr. of Shelby; his aunts, Shirley Woods of Providence, RI, Josephine DeGrassi of Atlanta, GA and Bonnie Stevenson (Steve) also of Providence; an uncle, Frank Culbreth of Shelby; special cousins, Sandra Burgess, David Burson and Bobby Burson; two special friends, Leticia Palacios and Victor Castillo and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. at the church
Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church
