POLKVILLE-- James Horace Gettys, Jr., 86, of 4213 Polkville Road, went home to be with the Lord Oct. 16, 2013, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
Born April 7, 1927, in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late James Horace Gettys, Sr. and Melissa Allen Gettys. Mr. Gettys was retired from Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company and was a member of Polkville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Gettys served in the U.S. Army during WWII from July 25, 1945, until Dec. 14, 1946.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Holtzclaw Gettys; five brothers, Eugene, Marvin, Roscoe, Kenneth and Glenn Gettys; and a sister, Ossie Cline.
Survivors include a brother, Hix Gettys and wife, Blanche of Shelby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church
Funeral Service: 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Polkville Baptist Church
Officiated by: The Revs. Rick Hamrick and Dale Byrd
Burial: Will follow in the church cemetery
