Evans Eugene "Gene" Rippy Jr. Obituary
SHELBY- Mr. Evans Eugene "Gene" Rippy, age 85, of Shelby, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at Peak Resources, Shelby.
Born Dec. 2, 1928, in Shelby, N.C., Mr. Rippy was the son of the late Evans and Bertha (Grant) Rippy and was preceded in death by a son, Michael Rippy, a granddaughter, Kimberly Thrift, a brother, Jerry Rippy, and a sister, Murial Rippy. Mr. Rippy was a member of Westview Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #202 where he was Duly Elected and Installed as Past Master of Cleveland Lodge No. 202, A.F. & A.M. in 1999 earning a 32nd Degree. Gene retired from Carolina Freight after 43 years of service. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, driving and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Sue (George) Rippy of the home, two sons, Mark Rippy and wife Tracy of Shelby, N.C. and Mitchell Rippy and wife Jodie of Shelby, N.C., a daughter, Malinda Ollis and husband Lanny of Shelby, N.C., five granddaughters, Jennifer Wayne and husband Robby of Iron Station, N.C., Jessica Morrison and husband Jimmy Jay of Shelby, N.C., Leslie Ollis of Shelby, N.C., Macy Ollis of Shelby, N.C., and Erika Rippy and fiancé Jacob Beam of Shelby, N.C., five great grandchildren, Hunter and Haylee Morrison, Drew, Sara, and Charlie Wayne, a daughter-in-law, Tina McNeilly of Kings Mountain, N.C., and a brother, Larry Rippy and wife Ann of Shelby, N.C.
Pallbearers will be Harold Bess, Hugh Bess, Bill Francis, Robert Pitchford, Lanny Ollis, and Robby Wayne.
The family would like to express a sincere thanks to staff at Peak Resources.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Cleveland Funeral Services and Crematory Chapel, with Dr. Rick Bowling officiating.
Burial will be held 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Cleveland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westview Baptist Church, 500 Melody Lane, Shelby, NC 28152 or to the Life Enrichment Center 110 Life Enrichment Blvd, Shelby, NC 28150.
