Joreka Allen-Benson Obituary
TOPSAIL BEACH-Joreka E. Allen-Benson of Topsail Beach, N.C., age 57, died peacefully at her home on Sept. 28, 2015.
Joreka enjoyed many fun times with her friends as a student at Shelby High School, Appalachian State University and East Carolina University. She loved spending time at her Topsail Beach home with her family, neighbors and friends where she enjoyed reading, "floating", fishing, festivals and other activities. Joreka also enjoyed working outside at her homes in Kenansville and Topsail Beach. Additionally, she loved to travel and enjoyed many great trips with her family and friends. Lastly, while eastern N.C. became her home, she always loved visits back to her hometown of Shelby, and to the mountains of western, N.C.
Until her retirement, Joreka worked as a teacher and librarian in the Duplin County School System. She enjoyed her work with her many colleagues and students.
She was the daughter of Mabel B. "Bunnie" Allen and the late Gerald Z. "Pearley" Allen of Shelby. She is survived by daughter and husband, Tiffany and Billy Taylor of Faison, N.C.; grandchildren, LaKanne, Zachary, and McKenzie of Faison, and one great grandchild. She is also survived by sisters, Faila Allen, of Black Mountain; sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Mark Hall of Conover; sister-in-law and husband, Kempie and Dennis Riley, of Kenansville; and brother-in-law, A. D. Benson, of Dunn, N.C.
As she wished, her memorial service is private.
In lieu of flowers, she requested contributions be made to Shelby High School, 230 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC 28152 in her memory.
