RUBY LOWERY
Ruby Sisk Lowery, a devoted and loving wife and mother as well as a successful business woman, died on Feb. 12, 2016, at Dr. Phillips Residential Care Center in Orlando, Florida. Born on Oct. 11, 1927, in Rutherford County, she was 88 years old.
Ruby was first and foremost a homemaker. However, she was also an avid church member at Bethel Baptist Church, a successful business woman and a talented artist. Over the years, Ruby was involved in a number of careers. She owned and operated a beauty shop and co-owned a dress shop in Ellenboro. She was involved in nutrition education and taught classes to senior adults through Isothermal Community College. In later years, Ruby lived in a retirement community, Eastwood Village, where she served as their real estate broker.
One of Ruby's passions was basket making. Together, she and husband Dewitt made baskets, taught basket making classes and participated in craft fairs all over North and South Carolina. They were awarded numerous first place ribbons and trophies, including first place awards at the state level. Their baskets have been displayed in several states and include their signature basket, the quilt tote, in the collection of First Lady Barbara Bush.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zebulon Vance Sisk and Flora Ross Sisk; and her husband of 59 years, Albert Dewitt Lowery.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Mayhew and husband Tommy of Shelby and Sandy Delonis and husband Bob of Orlando, Florida; three grandchildren, Constance O'Neill and husband Pat of Charleston, South Carolina, John Oehler of Charlotte and David Mayhew of Cornelius; and three great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Ryan and Evan O'Neill.
