Dear Ann and Family: We were so saddened by the loss of Davy. My sister, Pat and my brother, Gerald and I have very fond memories of the times in our childhood spent with our cousins in La and Ark. David was one of the finest men I ever knew. I believe he was loved by all who knew him. Having just celebrated my 50th wedding anniversary I can only imagine how it must feel to lose a partner of this many years. You will be in our thoughts and prayers and may the love of God and the family bonds comfort you at this time. David will be missed by many but he is resting in Loving Arms. Of that, there is no doubt. Sincerely, Maribeth Long and Patricia Stimpson.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Bennie (David) Thompson our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Bennie. And to Bennie it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Bennie, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, Generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Bennie's family and loved ones.

David was my friend for 17 years. I have not known a better friend. He was known for his love of his family and relatives which was unbounded.
David also was a spokesman for his neighbors as well.
He would stop whatever he was doing to help someone whether he knew them or not.
He was my friend and enough good things could never be said about him. I will miss his counsel and his friendship more than I can describe.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
I will miss my friend.
