S. Paul Chandler
SHREVEPORT, LA- Paul passed into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, after a lengthy illness. His life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Rose-Neath Southside in Shreveport, LA. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral following at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be Donnie Vercher of Rose Park Baptist Church who will be assisted by Reverend Frank Teat of Summer Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Forest Park West Cemetery, also in Shreveport.
Paul was born on August 5, 1929, to Joseph Ernest and Alice Belle Chandler. He served his Lord faithfully during his 83 years on this earth. Not only was Paul a deacon since 1964 but also a coach and Sunday school teacher...many young lives were changed because of him. He served the country he loved from 1948-1950 in the Marine Reserves. From 1952-1953 he served in the Army in the Korean War. Upon retiring from Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation after 35 years, he volunteered for several years at the Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center until his illnesses prevented it.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, J.E. Chandler; sister, Mary Belle Hanlin; and a baby sister. Paul is survived by the family he loved: his wife Betty of 62 years; son Stephen and wife Brenda; son Randy and wife Lois; grandchildren Kirsten Palmer and husband Tim; Lindsay Burford and husband Richard; Chelsea Vanderhoeven and husband Eddie; Zach and Chase Chandler. Also blessed with 5 great grandchildren: Alaina, Will, Victoria, Rhett, and Claire. His extended family Lois and Harold Willett of Jonesboro, AR; Frances and Steve Jenisch of Blanchard, LA; Billy and Carol Sanford of Nashville, TN; and many precious nephews and nieces. His family were real treasures to him.
He will always be remembered as a Godly man who loved the Lord, his wife, his children, his friends, and as a man who never met a stranger. We have all had a special touch from God just by having him in our lives. He always had a smile on his face, and today he is smiling with Jesus.
Pallbearers will be Mark Attaway, Danny McGowan, Zach and Chase Chandler, Eddie Vanderhoeven, and Richard Burford.
Our thanks to Dr. James Jackson and the staff at WK Hospice, especially Stephanie Price.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to S. Paul Chandler our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Paul. And to Paul it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Army. Paul, you are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Paul's family and loved ones.

There is no end to the kind things I can say about my Uncle Paul - one of the sweetest men I've ever met. I'm so sorry for the loss of his physical presence, but I agree with the rest of the family that he is doing well in the afterlife! So long, Uncle Paul. With love and sympathies to all.
