Patricia Morgan Obituary

Patricia Givens Morgan

BEAUMONT, TX - Patricia Givens Morgan, 81, of Beaumont, died Friday, February 8, 2013, in Beaumont, Texas. Patricia was born to Cecile Pace Givens and William Pattison Givens.

Patricia Givens was born in Athens, Louisiana, on August 1, 1931. She embodied the best of her generation with manners that were left unparalleled by any other Southern matriarch, and a spirit that never faltered, never failed to love. Patricia grew up in Shreveport, spending her summers on her grandmother Pacey's farm. Her childhood was filled with the things of fairy tales; neighbors she knew by name, a convenience store that served as the town's local gathering of gossips, and the ideal of simplicity that Patricia carried on and gave to her children. Even after she moved to suburbia, Patricia recounted her childhood through stories of milking cows and raising baby mice. Her gentleness was evident to all in her love for the summer breeze.

Patricia graduated from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana. Soon afterwards, Patricia fell in love. George Bason Morgan, Jr. had a quick wit, and a determination to make Patricia his wife. He often referred to her as "his redhead" or "Lotus Blossom", when he wrote to her in letters over the course of their three-year courtship. She married George, and Patricia Givens became Patricia Givens Morgan.

Patricia and George Morgan moved to Beaumont with their two sons, George and David, and settled in the house that would soon become the hub for all Morgans to come. After her sons married, Patricia Morgan became Mimmie. The delighted cries of seven grandchildren filled Patricia's home with newfound liveliness. As known by all, Patricia's pride and joy were her grandchildren.

Her fight with cancer began soon after the birth of her first grandchild, and ended on February 8, 2013. Patricia fought for twenty-three years; she fought for herself, for her life, but most of all, she fought for her family. "A walking miracle", MD Anderson referred to her after fighting for so many years with so many cancers. Through God's grace, she was a testimony to the power of spirit and a testimony to spunk that never dimmed, never faded, even in the face of true adversity. Patricia passed surrounded by her loved ones, leaving behind the legacy of a true fighter.

Patricia was an advocate for the education and furthering of women and remained active in the PEO, Circle, United Methodist Women, Altar Guild, and was a Diocese at the French Museum. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Sewing Club, Bridge Club, Symphony Supper, and the Symphony Club.

Survivors include her sons, George Morgan, III and his wife, Jean, of Beaumont and David Morgan and his wife, Rebecca, of Missouri City; grandchildren, Kelsey Morgan, Allen Morgan, Aaron Morgan, Courtney Morgan, Bailey Morgan, Kylie Morgan, and Brady Morgan; and sister, Sally Hanson and her husband, Bill, of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Her parents, her husband of forty-five years, and her second son, Allen Pattison Morgan, preceded her in death.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the decades of unparalleled, loyal care and kindness of Ethel Stewart and Douglas Smith.

A gathering of Mrs. Morgan's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 11, 2013, at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 701 Calder Avenue, Beaumont. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to First United Methodist Church of Beaumont.
