Terry Chappell Obituary

Terry Chappell

Terry Chappell, age 61, passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning, August 10, 2013. He was born October 4, 1951 in Texarkana, Arkansas.

Terry served in the United States Army from June, 1969, until June, 1975. He fought in the Vietnam War. Terry received a National Defense Service Medal and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal before earning an Honorable Discharge in 1975. He was a resident of Woody's Home for Veterans for the past eight years.

A beloved figure in his local church, The Pentecostals of Bossier City, Terry made many friends and became a mainstay regardless of the season or weather. His generous spirit and enthusiasm for God made a lasting impression upon the membership, and it will take time to become accustomed to having church without his unmistakable clapping.

His path in life was not without difficulties, but Terry will not be easily forgotten by those who became close to him in his final years. Several volunteers assisted Terry in his disabled years, including his caretaker and niece, Cristina Quinley.

Terry is survived by two brothers, D.J. (58) and Tommy (55), a sister, Je're (53), a daughter, Heather (35), three grandchildren, and three nieces.

A memorial service will be held for Terry at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, at The Pentecostals of Bossier City at 2833 Viking Dr. Bossier City, LA.

Memorials can be made in honor of Terry Chappell which will be donated to foreign missions in Belize.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Terry Chappell our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Terry. And to Terry it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Vietnam War while serving in the U.S. Army. Terry, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Terry's family and loved ones.
