Mrs. Allene Bagley
SHREVEPORT, LA- Described often by friends and family as an angel on earth, Allene Ford Bagley entered into her eternal rest on May 31, 2014.
Mrs. Bagley was born in Shreveport and resided here for most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lula Ford and Otis Ford; her husband, John L. Bagley; her step-daughter, Leslie "Ginger" Hinton and her husband, Larry; her sisters, Evelyn Sakovich and Marguerite Parnell. She is survived by her granddaughter, Debbie Spruell and her husband, Damon; grandson, Paul Hinton; great-granddaughters, Kara Hill, Ashley Minks and Paula Hinton; nephew, Jim Fuller and his wife, Mary; niece Evelyn Owens and her husband, Michael; nephew John Sakovich and his wife, Katherine; niece Linda Sakovich and 6 great great-grandchildren, along with many great nieces, nephews and friends.
After graduating from St. Vincent's Academy, Allene entered Shumpert's nursing school. Upon graduation 3 years later with her RN degree, she joined the United States Army
Nursing Corp and served in the European theater during World War II
from June, 1942 until November, 1945. When she returned home she worked at the Tri-state Hospital (now, Willis Knighton). There she met her beloved husband, John. She enjoyed 16 happy years of marriage before John became ill and died in 1971. Allene decided to change positions and went to work for Dr. Hendricks, an ear, nose and throat specialist at the Highland Clinic. She worked there for several years before retiring from her nursing career. Although she "officially" retired, Allene never stopped caring for family members who needed her special healing touch. In the early 2000's, Allene was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. She bravely then began her private battle with this disease. She continued to show her love and concern for others even as her own heath failed. She was quick to give everyone a word of encouragement and with her gift of wit and an excellent memory, she found ways to make everyone feel at ease in her company. Luckily Allene was blessed with a wonderful roommate, Mrs. Gwendolyn Mullins, when she moved to Garden Park Nursing Home. The family offers special thanks to the staff of Garden Park for making their facility truly "home" and a safe haven for Allene in her final years. Also, the family wishes to extend thanks to the team at St. Joseph's Hospice for their expertise and care in Allene's final days.
A graveside service will be held in Centuries Memorial Cemetery, Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of visitation and flowers, the family requests those wishing to remember Allene do so by sharing an act of kindness with someone in their community.
