Alvin Wade Gore, Sr.

Alvin Wade Gore, Sr., age 69, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ suddenly on Sunday, November 11. His life will be celebrated on Thursday, November 15 at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral following at 2:30 p.m. Officiating will be Brother Bill Ascol. Interment will take place at Forest Park also in Shreveport.

Alvin was born in Ruston, Louisiana on August 1, 1943. He is a graduate of C. E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana where he was a football standout playing fullback. He also attended Northwestern University of Natchitoches, Louisiana, and The University of Texas at Arlington on Football Scholarships. Alvin started his career in Dallas, Texas with Schill Steel working his way up from warehouse laborer to outside sales. He Co- founded Service Steel and Pipe, Inc. of Shreveport, Louisiana in 1975. Service quickly became the Industry leader and still thrives today. Alvin subsequently sold the company and he spent the rest of his life helping others take care of their families as a trusted financial advisor.

Alvin served Church and community as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, coach and patriot. He was blessed by God with an inordinate amount of common sense making the complex seem simple. Alvin was a skilled problem solver who gave of his time selflessly to mentor and counsel others. He was an encourager extraordinaire and his positive outlook on life was contagious. Alvin loved his country and the Godly principles upon which America was founded. He led by example freely giving of his time and resources to insure that future generations will be privy to the same liberties we enjoy now. Alvin had a passion for sports that was translated into many hours of work with his son, Wade and other area athletes. He was a dedicated Christ follower and always put his family's needs above his own.

Alvin is preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Emory Spell. He is survived by his father, S.J. Spell and wife Linda of Shreveport, Louisiana, his childhood sweetheart and cherished wife of almost 49 years, Cheryl, of Shreveport, Louisiana, son, Alvin "Wade" Gore, Jr. of Shreveport, daughters Kim Gore Gibbs and Husband, Andy of Frisco, Texas, Katie Gore Waxer of Atlanta, Georgia, Kourtney Gore Bedwell and Husband, Travis of Charlotte, North Carolina. Alvin is also survived by brothers Joe Spell and wife Liz of Shreveport, Louisiana and Patrick Spell and wife Marsha also of Shreveport. He is blessed with a legacy of grandchildren including Drew and Ridge Gibbs of Frisco, Texas, Saxby and Shelby Waxer of Atlanta Georgia, Lassiter and Landry Bedwell of Charlotte, North Carolina as well as nephews Joseph Spell, McIntyre Spell, William Spell and niece Emory Spell all of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Honoring Alvin as pallbearers will be David Scott, William Hargrove, Billy Grisham, James Blewett, Jerry Planchock, Darryl McEachern, Rodney Tabor, Jack Gulledge, Alton Allen, Mac Lattier, Wayne Marioneaux and Tim McElroy.
