Ava Roberts Callahan

Services celebrating the life of Ava Roberts Callahan will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 in the Frost Chapel of First Baptist Church in Shreveport at 2pm. The family will receive visitors at 1pm until the service begins. Officiating the service will be Rev. Mike Igo and Rev. Mike McKee. Eulogy will be given by Bill Johnson.

Ava was born on October 7, 1949 and peacefully went to be with our Heavenly Father on February 4, 2013, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Ava was preceded in death by her father, George Roberts Jr., and her former spouses; Roger Simmer and Roy Callahan. She is survived by her mother, Jo Roberts and her son Matthew Callahan both of Bossier, LA., sisters, Jane Igo and husband, Mike of Shreveport, LA., Lynda Verzwyvelt of Alexandria, LA., brothers, George E. Roberts III of Bossier, LA., Philip Roberts and wife, Ronda of Lafayette, LA. and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ava was a dedicated employee with the Louisiana Department of Education where she retired after 22 years. She also worked as an interpreter at BPCC through the Deaf Action Center. Ava was a selfless person, she never met a stranger, Ava gave her time and compassion to help people in her community. Ava was a loving mother, daughter, aunt, sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
