Ben D. Atchley, Sr.
Shreveport, LA - Graveside Services for Ben D. Atchley, Sr., 90, will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 1:00 P.M., Forest Park East - St. Vincent Avenue, with The Rev. Paul Martin, Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating.
Ben was born on May 14, 1922, in Tulia, Texas, and grew up in Crystal City, Texas, as the eldest son of nine children. During World War II, he joined the Air Force and became a pilot. After his discharge from the service, he graduated from La. Tech in 3½ years with a degree in Civil Engineering. He joined a firm in Shreveport and later became president of Atchley & Atchley, Inc., a Civil Engineering and Land Surveying firm. Ben designed many subdivisions in the Shreveport - Bossier City area.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Nora Atchley; his loving wife of 68 years, Helen Anne Ford Atchley; and five sisters and one brother. He is survived by sisters, Mary Alice Leftwich and Virginia von der Lippe and husband, George; son, Ben D. (Dan) Atchley, Jr. and wife, Pat; daughter, Jo Anne Ramsey and husband, Johnson; grandchildren, Helen Parrish Ramsey; Jordan Paige Hoffpauir and husband, Chase; Brian Daniel Atchley and wife, Delise; great-grandchildren, Carmen Anne Namie, Hayden Ramsey Hoffpauir, Helen Ramsey Hoffpauir, and Barrett Daniel Atchley; along with numerous nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank Father Paul Martin, the entire staff of Montclair Park, Dr. David Abdehou, the 4th Floor staff of Willis-Knighton Pierremont, and Linda Mitchell for the care they provided to Ben.
