Dewey H. Fowler

FOUKE, AR - Dewey H. Fowler of Fouke, AR, formerly of Shreveport, LA, died Tuesday, January 29, at a hospice center in Texarkana following a recent illness.

Mr. Fowler was born April 30, 1928 in Clarksville, TX. He attended Texarkana College and Vale Tech in Blairsville, PA and was retired from General Adjustment Bureau of Shreveport, an Army veteran who served in the Medical Corps in Germany and Japan, a member of Walnut Church of Christ in Texarkana and the Citizens for A Better Community, Inc. in Fouke and past-president of the Northwest Louisiana Claims Association in Shreveport, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar William and Lina Hays Fowler, three sisters: Bessie Miller, Mildred Pierce and Ruth Dodson, a brother, Oscar Maurice Fowler, who was killed while serving in the Marine Corps in World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ann Roberson Fowler of Fouke, a brother-in-law, David Roberson of Texarkana and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

During his retirement years, Dewey enjoyed travelling, playing golf, attending high school reunions and volunteering his service to the community. He and Ann were founding sponsors of the Alliance For Education in Shreveport, LA which served Caddo, Bossier, Desoto and Webster Parishes. When they moved to Fouke, AR they continued their work with the Citizens for A Better Community, Inc. He and Ann were recently honored by the organization with the naming of the library the Ann & Dewey Fowler Community Library.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 2nd at 2:00 p. m. at the Texarkana Funeral Home-Arkansas Chapel, 4801 Loop 245, Texarkana, AR. A memorial service conducted by Dr. John Cannon, Tommy Gaither and Frank McFerrin will follow at 3:00 p. m.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all who cared for Dewey or helped in other ways during his recent illness.
