McKellar

BELCHER, LA - Diana McKellar passed away on December 8th while surrounded by loved ones at the home of her son, John, following a nine month battle with lung cancer. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Gilliam United Methodist Church on December 15th at 10 AM. Reverend Emile Rousseau, pastor, will officiate.

Diana was born on December 11, 1940 in Shreveport, LA to John J. Meares and Doris Mulkey Meares Pearce. Growing up in Gilliam, she loved living in the country, riding her horse, and cavorting with girlfriends; Linda, Janice, Gertrude, and Sandra who along with Diana referred to themselves as the "Jive Five," and would become friends for life. Upon graduating from North Caddo High School, Diana received a Bachelor of Education from Louisiana Tech University and received her Masters plus thirty from Northwestern State University. Diana lived in Bossier City with her husband, Benny McKellar, and their two sons, John and Bob and taught in Bossier Parish schools for twenty-two years. After retiring, Diana moved to Shreveport and began working for The Arc Caddo Bossier serving young children with special needs and their families. In recent years, Diana moved into her mother's home, in Belcher, where she loved sharing her vegetable garden, swimming pool, and special events with family, neighbors, and friends alike. Diana was active in her community and church serving as a Sunday School teacher, Lay leader, and member of the Choir. In addition, she was an avid reader; member of a book club; and ardent LSU Tigers, Dallas Cowboys, and Tiger Woods sports fan. Besides cheering for her favorite teams, occasionally spending an afternoon at "the boats" also provided Diana the opportunity for fun with friends and family. She will be greatly missed as one who loved unconditionally and lived life passionately.

Diana was preceded in death by her parents, John J. Meares and Doris Mulkey Meares Pearce, her step-father, Lewis Frank Pearce, her husband, Benny McKellar; and son, Bob McKellar. She is survived by her devoted sister, Beth McDade and husband, Mickey; son, Dr. John McKellar and wife, Debbie; son-in-law, Steve Landherr; grandson, Jay McKellar and wife, Lauren; granddaughter, Chandler McKellar; and first great grandchild, Jack McKellar. Her extended family, who loved and will miss their Dede as well, includes: Billy, Kelly, Sadie, and Abigail McDade; Paige, Frank, and Ella Hendrick; Eric, Hillary, Sarah-Beth, and Alexander McDade and a host of special friends.
