Dorothy Jeweleen Mathews Keen

Dorothy Jeweleen Keen, 89, died at Willis Knighton Hospital, Shreveport, LA, on October 7th.

Dorothy was born September 24, 1923 to Charles and Mary (Finley) Mathews (Ma and Pa) of Readhimer, LA., who preceded her in death.

Dorothy worked in the Pentagon for the War Dept. during WWII, one of the brave women that sacrificed for her country. She married her sweetheart and husband of 69 years, Nathan Keen, at Chevy Chase Baptist Church (Maryland). Nathan is a retired pastor living in Shreveport, LA., and is a member of Woodridge Baptist Church. Dorothy loved baking for her family, especially egg custard pie, biscuits, banana pudding and blackberry cobbler.

Their daughter, Betty Gail Smith (Paul) of Bremerton, WA, preceded her in death in 2011. Dorothy is survived by her six children, Judith (John) Bancroft (Panama City, FL), Shirley Nascimento (Baton Rouge, LA); Rebecca K. Monderen (Manny) Garcia (Molokai, HI); Edward (Marty) Keen (Valparaiso, FL); Mary (Gwin) Edwards (W. Monroe, LA), and Patrick (Lori) Keen (Shreveport, LA); and her eighteen grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her youngest sister, Mary Pullin (Hodge, LA) and was preceded in death by her four brothers and six sisters, and by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 10th at 11 a.m. at her childhood church home, Briarwood Baptist Church, Readhimer, LA where her husband, who will officiate the service, pastored their friends and family. Visitation will be held Tuesday night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home, Jonesboro, LA.

Pallbearers will be; John Monderen, Matthew Hipple, John Bancroft, Johnny Monderen, Jr., Reed Keen, Luke Keen, Mickey Hawkins, Gwin Edwards, Jacob Monderen, Joseph Monderen and David Keen.
