Edward L. Kitchens
SHREVEPORT, LA - Edward L. Kitchens "Big Daddy", 91 of Shreveport, LA went home to be with the Lord on February 19, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., February 22, 2013, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with interment to follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Officiating will be Brother Murray Hodge of Summer Grove Baptist Church where Mr. Kitchens was a long time member.
The family will receive friends to celebrate his life from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Ed was born on November 7, 1921 in Newton, MS to Alvis Paul and Lena Mae Kitchens and grew up in Monroe, LA. He had a paper route all through high school, then after graduating from Neville in Monroe he met and married, Peggy, a young nurse. Ed, later, joined the Army
and served in WWII
in the South Pacific with the 727th Amphibian Tractor Battalion. He was a member of Queensborough Baptist Church and Summer Grove Baptist Church, as well as, the Bayou Pierre Toastmasters, where he held many offices at the local and district level including District Governor.
Preceded him in death was his loving wife of 68 years, Margaret Clair "Peggy" Kitchens (Cubby) of Shreveport, parents Alvis Paul and Lena Mae Kitchens, brothers, O'Neal Kitchens, Marvin Kitchens and sister, Bobby Jean Kitchens Cascio, all of Monroe, LA.
Ed is survived by three daughters, Kay Smith and husband, Clark of Magnolia, TX; Karen Fuller and husband, Bob of Shreveport; and Gaylan Hall and husband, Elton of Monroe, LA; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, cousin, Nolan Craven, Sr., several nieces and a nephew.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clark Smith, Bob Fuller, Elton Hall, Dennis Smith, Russell Smith, Edward Prokopf and Eric Grahek.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home, Dr. Fleniken, and the caring nursing staff for their wonderful care of dad and the special care from Richard Tewell.
