Shreveport, LA -A memorial service celebrating the life of Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" Whitmeyer Alexander Hawkins, 86, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Osborn Funeral Home. Visitation will be immediately preceding the service from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
Betty Lou was born April 26, 1926, in Plaquemine, Louisiana, to G. Randell and Marie Louise Berret Whitmeyer and passed away on December 5, 2012. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James R. "Dee" Alexander; daughter, Roberta Louise Alexander; and sister, Edna Marie O'Brien Allen.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Emmett Hawkins Jr.; her children, Elizabeth "Libby" Alexander and Dr. James R. "Jim" Alexander Jr. and wife Stacy of Shreveport; her brothers Frederick Marshall Whitmeyer of Stokesdale, North Carolina, and Claudius Emile Whitmeyer, of Little Rock, Arkansas; stepdaughters, Heather Hawkins Duncan of Mill Valley, California, and Holly Hawkins of Pasadena, California; four grandchildren, Dr. R. Walker Jones and wife Rebecca of Metairie, Louisiana; Marshall Alexander Jones of New York, New York; James R. "Dee" Alexander III and wife Brittany of Katy, Texas; and Leigh Elizabeth Alexander of Boulder, Colorado; two great grandchildren, Eli Myles Jones and Sylvie Louise Jones, of Metairie, Louisiana; and a multitude of dearly loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill O'Brien, Morgan O'Brien, Thomas O'Brien, William O'Brien, Dr. Chris Gardner, Ed Crawford and Dr. Barron O'Neal.
Betty Lou graduated from C.E. Byrd High School where she was a football sweetheart. She graduated from LSU, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and continued her love of football through the LSU Tigers. Whenever the Tigers were playing, she instructed her family to answer the phone, saying "Geaux Tigers"! Betty Lou was an avid bridge player, a gourmet cook, and absolutely adored her family. During her 35-year career as a realtor, she was chosen as Realtor of the Year in 1982.
