BOSSIER CITY / SHREVEPORT, LA - Elizabeth went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2013. She was born in Gibsland, LA on October 4, 1917. Preceded in death by husband Buron Teekell, parents John and Lydia Carr, sisters Sue Miller and Bealle Jennings, brother Marshall Carr, and children Dorothy Gardner and Ray Teekell. Survivors include daughter Diane Jackson (Jimmy), brother Joe Carr, 8 grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. She became an RN after graduating from North LA Hospital - Shreveport in 1938 and came to live in Bossier City after marrying Buron Teekell in the same year. She resided in Bossier City until 2007 when she moved to Dover, FL to be with daughter, Diane and family. She was an active member of Oakmont Church of God in Shreveport for many years. She was the first woman to be elected to the board of trustees as well as serving as Sunday school teacher, Church greeter, and Charter member of Ladies Prayer Group. Elizabeth was an active member of Bossier City Mothers Club and served in many capacities including President, Vice-President and Secretary. She was a member of the Bossier City Civitan Club serving as first Lady President of the Club. Volunteering for the Special Olympics
was a passion. She also won honors at the State Club level. She was a member of the Clean City Board of Directors and the Clean City Committee and residential subcommittee. This subcommittee was awarded the National Civic Award by Keep America Beautiful Inc." Elizabeth was chosen to accept the award in Washington DC on behalf of this committee for the efforts she had made in making old North Bossier the most improved neighborhood. She was proud that she was able to sell many bricks for the 911 display at the Bossier City Complex. She was also instrumental in obtaining funds for a new school sign at Bossier Elementary. Before moving to FL, May 1, 2007 was designated as ELIZABETH TEEKELL DAY by the Mayor and City Council of Bossier City.
There will be a memorial service for Elizabeth on Saturday, April 6, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Oakmont Church of God, 5925 W 70th St. Shreveport, LA. Come Celebrate and remember her life with us.
