SHREVEPORT, LA-Funeral services for Gary B. Atkins, 68, will be held at 12 noon Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Randall Smith. Interment will follow with military honors presented by the U.S. Navy
Honor Guard in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at the funeral home.
Gary was born on February 19, 1945 in Hattiesburg, MS to Robert Buell and Mazie Atkins and passed away on April 9, 2013. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a resident of Shreveport where he was a member of the American Legion, a master plumber and worked for the City of Shreveport. Gary was the inventor of the Bay Flange. He enjoyed woodworking and shooting muzzle loaders as his hobbies.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Atkins; son, Tommy Atkins and wife, Deanna; daughters, Tracy Atkins Wise, Jo Atkins Cummings and husband, Troy, Julie Atkins Rhodes and husband, Gabe; grandchildren, Jordan Hamil Johnson and husband, Andrew, Mark Hamil, Emily Hamil, Christopher Atkins, Sarah Atkins, Dawson Atkins, Samantha Cummings, Tyler Cummings, Chance Rhodes and Logan Rhodes; 4 great-grandchildren and one on the way; brother, Rodney Atkins and wife, Patsy; sister, Yvonne Atkins Hill and husband, Butch.
Pallbearers will be Warren Moore, Richard Ross, Kenneth Martin, Cody Duke, Butch Owen, Doug Hayes, Matt Kauffman, and Jeff Free. Honorary pallbearer will be Luke.
