Minden, LA Services celebrating the life of George John Mourad will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Minden, Louisiana. Officiating will be Father Mark Franklin. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden, Louisiana under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, Louisiana.

George Mourad was born on October 3, 1928, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and he passed away on December 23, 2013, in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 85, following complications associated with lymphoma. George spent his early childhood in Natchitoches, but once his family moved to Minden, Louisiana, he was proud to call Minden his hometown for the rest of his life. George graduated from Minden High School with classmates whom he considered lifelong friends. George served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. While stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, he met and married the love of his life, Chris Dinkins Mourad, who was a member of the United States Navy. George and Chris were married for 55 years at the time of her death in 2009.

George was a member of the Minden Fire Department, retiring as captain in 1986. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on guns, hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He especially enjoyed daily domino games with his buddies known as the "42 Club." Through the years, George was involved in many activities in Minden, including being a part of a group of members of the American Legion who put up American flags along the main streets of Minden on holidays. George Mourad was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend. He was an honest, hardworking man, who placed his family above everything else, and he always saw the best in everyone.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Chris; parents, A.G. and Mary Mourad; and son-in-law, Rick Merrill. He is survived by his children Kalani Merrill of Minden, Renee and Jimmy Stewart of Doyline, Kip and Jenny Mourad of Minden, Kathy and Winky Newer of Minden, and Kim and Buddy Lott of Natchitoches. He was Papa to his grandchildren Jamie Gressett and husband Dan of Ruston, Klint Newer and wife Meghan of Oklahoma City, Ryan Stewart of Doyline, Emily Mourad of New York City, Jared Mourad of Shreveport, Michael Lott of Natchitoches, and Camille Lott of Natchitoches. A bonus to his life for the past 3 years has been his great granddaughter Addy Lou Gressett. George is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Janice Mourad of Minden, and by his nephew Jeff Mourad and wife Becky and their children and nephew Jay Mourad and his children. He is also survived by his aunt, Agnes Abraham of Alexandria, his uncle Tom LaHood, of Alexandria, and close family friend Larry Riffle.

Serving as pallbearers for Papa will be Klint Newer, Ryan Stewart, Jared Mourad, Michael Lott, Dan Gressett, Jeff Mourad, and Jay Mourad. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the "42 Club."
