
Gloria Christine Matthews Spivey
Services celebrating the life of Gloria Christine Matthews Spivey will be held , Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be grandson, Keith Lauter and son, R.T. Spivey. Interment will follow at Forest Park cemetery on St. Vincent Avenue.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street.
Gloria Christine Matthews Spivey was born February 9, 1922 in Reagan, Falls County, Texas and went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 6, 2013. She was preceded in death by parents, Robert E. Lee Matthews and Beulah Alice Peeples, husband, Charles Spivey who was a WWII casualty and daughter, Alice Ellen Spivey, and husband of 45 years, Pat Spivey, daughter-in-law Shirley Long Spivey. Gloria is survived by five children, Charles (Chuck) Spivey and wife Peggy Horton Spivey, Sam Spivey and wife, Joanne Lanzillotti Spivey, R.T. (Tarver) Spivey, Jeanie Spivey Burnham and husband, Bruce Burnham, Beth Spivey Shaw and husband, Andy Shaw. She also has 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
"The Lord has blessed me, and He is first in my life, then family, friends and the gift of music. I played piano/organ for 68 years. So for each of you, I give thanks to my Lord, and look forward to a big reunion of family and friends. Just awaken each day and say, this is the day God has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it."
Honoring Gloria as pallbearers will be grandsons; Rob Spivey, Jesse Spivey, Anthony Spivey, Patrick Spivey, Paul Spivey, Jeremy Spivey and Allen Dewhurst.
