Harold S. Goldstein

Harold S. Goldstein passed away on Saturday February 23, 2013 in Austin, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents Isadore and Molly Goldstein and his sister Shirley Schecter. Harold is survived by his loving wife Carol of 55 years; son Dr. Mark Goldstein and wife Christie and family, daughter Dr. Janine Goldstein and wife Dr. Patricia Murphy and family, and daughter Danielle Howland and husband Dr. George Howland; along with 11 grandchildren, brothers-in-law Don Barnett, Walter Kellum; nieces Deborah Marlin and Sharon Gappelberg and their families, nephews Ronny Saks and Michael Saks and their families.

Harold was born on December 17, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas. He married Carol Barnett on March 2, 1958 and raised their family in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from NMSU as a horticulturist and became Executive Director of the American Rose Society. As Executive Director, he helped bring the headquarters of the ARS to Shreveport, helped develop all the gardens, and established Christmas in Roseland. He was directly involved in making the rose the National flower of the United States.

He will be missed by all that knew him. Much appreciation is given to Irma Trevino for her compassion and loving care. Special thanks is extended to Brodie Ranch staff and Century Hospice.
