Henry Martin Marak, Sr.
SHREVEPORT, LA - Henry Martin Marak, Sr. quietly passed away on May 7, 2014 at Willis Knighton Pierremont hospital after a brief illness. Numerous times before he passed, he again expressed how much he loved God and his family.
Funeral Services will be a Mass at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10th. Monsignor J. Carson LaCaze will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Park East, St. Vincent Ave. Visitation and Rosary will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home at 1815 Marshall Street from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014.
Henry Marak was born on July 26, 1917 at Marak, Texas of John A. Marak and Adele Gerik. He was the 5th of 6 children. He attended St. Stephen & Methodius Catholic Church and school. He graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron, Texas. He received his business education in Dallas, Texas. In World War II
he served in the Air Force. While stationed at Barksdale Field he met and married Helen Marie Berberich and made Shreveport his home. He and his wife had a long career in the real estate and timber business. He loved his family and his work. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, John and Adele Marak, his brother, John Marak and his sisters, Annie Ermis, Florence Agnes Williams, Mallie Hubnik and Margaret Miller, and his son-in-law, John Daniel Scott III.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Berberich Marak; sons, Henry Martin, Jr. and wife, Betty; William John Marak, Robert Joseph Marak and wife, Martha, all of Shreveport; and daughters Linda Marak Scott, of Shreveport ; Kathleen Marak Hightower and husband, James Hightower, of Lafayette; Donna Marak Riess and husband, Michael Riess of New Orleans. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Martin James Marak, Katherine Lee Marak, Nathan Paul Marak, John Daniel Scott, IV and wife, Jenny; Leigh Scott Lewis and husband, Bobby; John Hightower, Joan Hightower, Matthew James Marak, Madeline Claire Marak, Michael Robert Carson Riess, Jr. and Christopher Marak Riess; 5 great grandchildren; Henry Ross Lewis, Andrew Scott Lewis, Isabelle Marie Lewis, Emma Katherine Scott and Addison Clarke Scott; sister-in-law Barbara Clark and husband, Donald. And a host of nieces and nephews and family friends; John Kubat, Anna Dees and his caring neighbors on Robinson Place.
Pall Bearers will be the grandsons and great grandsons; Martin Marak, Nathan Marak, Matthew Marak, John Hightower, Robert and Christopher Riess, J.D. Scott, Bobby, Henry and Andrew Lewis.
