James Herndon Adger, Jr.
SHREVEPORT, LA - James Herndon "Hank" Adger, Jr. passed away quietly on Monday, September 16, 2013. Services celebrating the life of Hank will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2013 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street Chapel Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be The Very Rev. Alston Johnston. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park, Shreveport, LA. An Irish Wake will be held from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at The Dixie Gin, 5696 Sentell Road, Shreveport, LA, 71107. Visitation will also be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA.
Hank was born on October 11, 1950 in Shreveport, LA to James Herndon and Marie "Tookie" Gulley Adger, Sr. He attended Belcher Jr. High School, North Caddo High School and Northwestern University
. From a tender age, Hank was raised to work cattle and horses. After his father passed, Hank began pipelining to help support his mother and five siblings. In his early 20's he returned to school and earned an Associate Degree in Animal Science from Northwestern University. He then began to follow in his father's footsteps as a cattleman, his true goal in life. Hank balanced ranching and working as an offshore consultant in Nigeria, Angola, and Algeria as well as other countries. Hank traveled extensively throughout Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and Central America but always managed to return home to maintain his farm and herd. Family was extremely important to Hank, he was always available to his family at any time. Hank devoted his life to being a dedicated father to his two daughters for whom he provided and supported throughout their lives. Hank had a wonderful personality, and was a born storyteller. He had friends from all walks of life, was an avid reader, and a well-respected cattleman. Hank lived a full and adventurous life. He was a most unforgettable person who will be missed by all of his family and friends who were so dear to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Herndon and Marie "Tookie" Gulley Adger, Sr., and brother, Will "Bill" Velvin Adger. Mr. Adger is survived by his daughters; Kathleen Cody Adger White and husband, Patrick, Katherine Lee Adger; grandchildren, Katherine Gordon White, and Lila Lee White; sister, Lynn Adger Farrar; brothers, Jack Adger and wife, Sis, Lane Adger, Andy Adger and wife, Amanda; aunt, Agnes Conley and husband Forrest; and numerous nieces , nephews and cousins.
Honoring Hank as pallbearers will be Jerry Allen, Jay Bohannon, Forrest Conley, Jr., Mike Gildon, Gregg Goodwin, Jack Pace, PhD, Buddy Powell, and John Stone. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Adger, Tom Conley, Rusty Gildon, Ronnie Powers, DVM and Robert Ryan.
The Adger family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Gerry San Pedro, Laura Mahaffey and Dr. Ronald Lambert for their loving care and compassion for Mr. Adger during his illness.
