James O. Gunter

Mansfield, LA - Celebration of Life services for J.O. Gunter, 89, will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 17, 2014, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mansfield, LA, with Father Matthew Long officiating. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Highland Cemetery, Mansfield, LA, under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home.

The family will be receiving guests for visitation Wednesday, April 16, 2014, from the hours of 4 - 8 P.M. with Rosary held at 6 P.M. in the Chapel of Rose-Neath, Mansfield, LA.

J.O. was born February 12, 1925, in Goldonna, LA, to the late Elbert Henry and Leta Mary Sanders Gunter and was called home April 14, 2014, in Mansfield, LA. He was a life member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mansfield, LA. Mr. Gunter served his grateful nation by joining the U.S. Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific Theater from 1943-1946.

J.O. retired as a superintendant from Southern Natural Gas Co. following thirty years of dedicated service. He had a passion for the great outdoors always spending time gardening and maintaining his yard. J.O. will be remembered by those who loved him as a loving husband and devoted father and special step-father.

Mr. Gunter was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings and first wife (mother of his four daughters), Glorey Prudhomme Gunter. Left to cherish J.O.'s precious memories will be his wife of twenty-seven years, Agnes Cooper Pilkington Gunter; four daughters: Charlotte Jackson and husband Charles, Deborah Bell and husband Donnie, Rebecca Calhoun and husband Gary and Candra Deese and husband Tommie; five step-children, Roger Pilkington and wife Nelda, Barbara Mayfield and husband Jerry, Terry Pilkington and wife Sue, Ginger Goins and husband Mike and Tommy Pilkington and Lisa, volumes of grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family members and many wonderful friends.

Honoring J.O. as pallbearers will be John Walker, Bob Latham, Bill Kleinpeter, Jimmy White, Bryant Calhoun and Shane Pilkington. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Bell, Terry Pilkington, Logan Calhoun and Dakota Calhoun.
