John Allen Head
SHREVEPORT, LA - Mr. Head passed away on his birthday, Thursday November 8th after a lengthy illness. He was born in Eros, LA on November 8, 1924.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Katherine McQueen Head; daughters, Shirley McMullen and husband Malcolm, Katherine Garceau and husband Dan; grandchildren, Joel McMullen and Kara McMullen Schneider and husband, Aron; great-grandchildren, Aleeza and Avi Schneider; sister, Hilda Burns and her son, Phillip Burns, wife Nancy and children Holly and Kevin; niece, Nancy Burns Cooper, husband Randy and children P.J. and Kristi; step-grandchildren, Stacey McDaniel and husband Perry, Lou Ray and husband Dave, Danny Garceau, Scott Garceau and wife Michelle and the late Mark Garceau and wife Cecilia.
He was preceded in death by his son Scotty; brothers Carl, Bernard, J.Y and Durwood Head; and sister Margie Rawls.
He served in the Navy in World War II
and married his "bride" in Miami, Florida on April 6, 1945. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason. He spent many hours teaching others about the Masons and was well known around the state for his work. He was a member of the Victory Chapter #130 O.E.S. and also a member of VFW
Post #2238 and served in the honor guard.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans War Home for their kindness and care. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital, the Baptist Children's Home in Monroe or the Masonic Lodge on Creswell Ave.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 12th at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Tom Brown. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park.
