John Gwin Morrison

Shreveport, LA. Services celebrating the life of John Gwin Morrison will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Marshall Street. Officiating will be Dr.Carl Rhodes of First Methodist Church in Shreveport. Interment will follow at Forest park Cemetery St. Vincent. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10am.

John Gwin Morrison went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 19, 2013. Gwin was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Urban and Louise Morrison and brother, Dr. J.U. Morrison. Gwin is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Kathryn Morneaux Morrison, brother, Charles E. Morrison of Houston, Tx, sons, John Gwin Morrison Jr. and wife, Dr. Kathleen Straufuss of Houston, TX., Jeffrey Alan Morrison and wife, Denise of Shreveport, LA., grandchildren, Jennifer Morrison-Green and husband, Brandon of Benton, LA., Christopher Jeffrey Morrison and wife, Brandi of Blanchard, LA, Dr. Holland Gwin Morrison and wife, Shannon, of McKinney, TX.,Derek Alan Sadler and wife, Emily of Metarie, LA., and Jeffrey John Morrison of Dallas, TX. Gwin is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Alyson and Caleb Green, Skylar, Piper, Ethan and Ramsey Morrison, along with brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jon and Ann Oliver.

Gwin was born December 30, 1920 and attended Cresswell Elementary School, C.E. Byrd High School and was a graduate of Centenary College. He served in Europe with the Army during WWII. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was an avid HAM Radio operator with call sign N5-MWT. Many enjoyable hours were spent with his sons playing golf, fishing, and duck hunting.

The family extends a special thanks to long time caregivers, Shelbie Yancy, Jeanie Vance, Judy Morris, Kathy Elliott and Amanda Pierce.

Honoring Gwin as pallbearers will be, Chris Morrison, Dr. Holland Morrison, Derek Sadler, Jeffrey Morrison, Brandon Green and Patrick Oliver.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Eternal Flame Endorsment Fund 500 Common Street Shreveport, LA. 71111.
