Shreveport, LA - Juanita Lanier Foster Harrell died peacefully in her home early Tuesday, November 13, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was 89 years old. A private graveside service will be held prior to the memorial service. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012, in the Chapel of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Dr. Scott Tatum will officiate. A reception will follow in the church parlor.

Mrs. Harrell was born on August 26, 1923, in Foley, Alabama. On March 4, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Billy Earl Harrell in Waco, Texas. Three years later, in 1947, Billy Harrell joined Arkansas-Louisiana Gas Company's management training program. The Harrell's moved to Shreveport at that time and lived here for the rest of their lives.

Mrs. Harrell was a member of the Shreveport Club, Demoiselle Club where she served as ball chairman, the Cotillion Club and Broadmoor Baptist Church. She was a generous supporter of the Glen Retirement System, Centenary College Women's Endowment, Sutton Children's Hospital, Southwestern Theological Seminary, New Orleans Baptist Seminary, and Broadmoor Baptist Church.

Mrs. Harrell enjoyed playing tennis for many years. Her other favorite past time was playing bridge. She looked forward to her games with the "Tuesday Tulips" and her other afternoon bridge groups. She had a wonderful sense of humor, strong faith and was generous to her family and the community. She had empathy for others and showed courage in the face of adversity. Although the last years of her life were limited and confined mostly to her home, she never lost her positive spirit, engaging sense of humor, and appreciation for those who cared for her. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and great grandchildren.

Her husband, Billy Earl Harrell; sister, Zorada Foster Wilkinson; brother, Price Litten Foster, Jr. and her parents, Price Litten and Emma Lanier Foster preceded Mrs. Harrell in death.

She is survived by her three daughters, Nita Harrell Braddock and her husband, Edward Terrell (Buddy) Braddock, Melanie Harrell Thomas and her husband, Edmund Mazyck (Ted) Thomas, and Stephanie Harrell; her grandchildren, Edward Harrell (Billy) Braddock and his wife, Kristine Kyle Braddock, Elizabeth Lanier Monk and her husband, Kenneth Brian Monk; and her great grandchildren, Taylor Ashley Braddock, Kyle Foster Braddock, Christian Edward Braddock, Ryan Harrell Monk and Corbin Robert Monk.

Pallbearers will be Billy Braddock, Ken Monk, Dr. Barron O'Neal, Steve Harrell, Dan Harrell and Dwight Tietjen.

Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons, Kyle Braddock, Christian Braddock, Ryan Monk and Corbin Monk.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Frances Waters, Dr. Rick Michael, Dwight Tietjen, Billie Hidalgo, Kathy Hiller, Brenda Kent, Oscar Player and most gratefully to Shirley Carrier, Elsie Lewis and Sharon Pierson for their devotion and exceptional care of Mrs. Harrell for many years.
