Lamar F. Baker
Shreveport, LA - Graveside services celebrating the life of Lamar F. Baker, 97, will be held at 2:00 Thursday, October 24, at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. Officiating will be Ken Irby of Broadmoor United Methodist Church where Mr. Baker was a long-time member. Visitation will be held prior to the services at Osborn Funeral Home from 12:00 until 1:30.
Lamar was born July 27, 1916 in Shreveport, graduated from C.E. Byrd High School and attended Louisiana State University
in Baton Rouge. He was commissioned a lieutenant and served in the Army
Air Corp during the Second World War. He owned and operated a number of successful small businesses in the Shreveport area; most notably Lamar Baker Building Sales, Inc. and the Shreveport Spotlight which was the original visitor's guide for the city. He was very active in the 10th District Advertising Federation serving a term as Governor. He had many friends in the "Ad Club" as well as his "golfing buddies" throughout the years. Lamar was an avid private airplane pilot and golfer and enjoyed attending the Colonial Golf Tournament on an annual basis.
Lamar was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Katie Collins Baker. He is survived by his daughter, Kala Halliburton and husband, Tom, of Plano, TX; son, Lamar Baker, Jr., of Shreveport; granddaughter, Erin Redding and husband, Todd; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Blake Redding, of Allen, TX; grandson, Chris Baker and wife, Sarah; great-grandsons. Reid and Dean, of Shreveport; and grandson, Michael Baker and wife, Regan, of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by a nephew, wonderful friends and loyal caregivers.
