Midge Brooks Vreeland

Shreveport native Midge Brooks Vreeland died on February 17, 2014 surrounded by loving family and friends at her home in Gray, Maine.

She had a distinguished career as managing partner of Vreeland Marketing & Design in Yarmouth, Maine, which she and her husband Stewart opened in 1978. She also led a generous life of service and celebration, including serving as president of Spannocchia Foundation in Italy, where she and Stew own a 16th century home. An alumna of Byrd High School, Midge was a 1972 graduate of Northwestern University in Chicago.

Midge's positive attitude and winning smile were her trademarks. She lived life to the fullest, even in the face of adversity. A loyal friend, she never let you go.

Midge was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Eric Brooks, Jr. and Patricia Joye Thompson Brooks. She is survived by the love of her life, Stew; her much-loved children Zachary of New York, NY; Wiley of London, England, and Grayson of Chicago, IL; by brothers and beloved sisters Kix and Barbara Brooks of Nashville, TN; Ben and Jennifer Brooks of Enis, TX; and Pat Whittington Brooks and Lisa Brooks of Shreveport. She is also survived by her cousins SuSu Rosenthal; Kathy and Ken Drake, and Mary Grace McCarty, all of Baton Rouge; her father-in-law Don Vreeland of Marshalltown, IA; beloved brothers-and sisters-in-law; and many, many dear friends throughout the world.

A celebration of her life was held February 22 at the First Parish Congregational Church in Yarmouth, and a graveside service was held March 1 at the family farm in Fort Necessity, LA.
