BENTON, LA - Monroe John Stith Sr. was called home to rest with our Heavenly Father on November 29, 2012. He was born August 4, 1938 to the late John T. Stith and Idella Harris Stith in Shreveport, Louisiana.

He was employed by Sears Roebuck for 42 years. He completed his certification in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration in 1985 from Ayers Institute. Monroe enjoyed fishing, traveling and was an avid football fan. His great smile was a gift to everyone, and he was always willing to help a friend in need.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mrs. Jessie B. Stith of Benton, La. Four children were born to this union: Dexter Wayne Stith (deceased), Sonjah Stith McKnight and Tangela Stith Bell both of Baton Rouge, La., and Monroe John Stith Jr. of Shreveport. Monroe Sr. was the proud grandfather of Cedric Washington (Amy), Ellen McKnight, Merissa Bell, Luke St. John McKnight and the great grandfather of Eli Washington and Ava Washington. He leaves to mourn his siblings: Flora Jean Mitchell, Carolyn Small, Floyd H. Stith, and Calvin T. Stith; his brother and sister in-laws: Rev. Clarence Kidd (Emma), Margie Campbell and Joyce Kidd, Louise Kidd, Felcie Kidd and a host of nieces and nephews.

Viewing begins Friday, December 7th at Benevolent Funeral Home, 1624 Milam Street in Shreveport and just prior to the funeral service from 10a.m. to 10:45 at the church on Saturday on December 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the New Zion C.M.E. Church, 1240 Linton Road in Benton.
