Rayburn J. Mahan
Shreveport, LA- Funeral services celebrating the life of Rayburn J. Mahan, 92, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2013 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
Rayburn J. Mahan was born on May 3, 1921 in Shirley, Arkansas to John Irving and Tryphena Olive Paxon Mahan and passed away on December 16, 2013. Mr. Mahan bravely fought for his country in WWII, in the Pacific Theatre earning numerous Bronze Battle Stars/commendations, as well as an honorable discharge with a Purple Heart
. After being honorably discharged in January 1946 from the Army at the rank of Platoon Sergeant he returned home to marry his life partner, Rebecca (Cullum) Mahan. Rayburn accepted Jesus Christ into his life many years ago and was baptized by Church of Christ Minister and father-in-law, Charles Cullum. Rayburn lived in Shreveport for 55 years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after better than 30 years of service.
Mr. Mahan was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Rebecca Mahan.
Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Steven Mahan and Gary Mahan and wife Rhonda Fowler Mahan; grandchildren, Alisa Mahan Yarter, Amber Mahan White, Aaron Reese Mahan and Cassity Mahan Vandine; great grandchildren, Ethan, Preston, Whittan and Piersan Yarter and Sophia and Izzie White, as well as, one great grandchild yet to arrive.
Honoring Mr. Mahan as pallbearers will be: Aaron Mahan, Joey Vandine, Mark Woodall, Scott Hammett, Dylan Yarter and Toby White.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to his loving caregivers that allowed them to honor his wishes and keep him in his own home until his death.
