TSgt Derek Emanuel


TSgt Derek Emanual Langford, 31 of North Las Vegas, NV left this life on earth August 16, 2013 to fly with the angels. Derek was a Tech Sargent of the United States Air Force Stationed at Creech AFB, Nv. He came into this world in Shreveport, La on May 4, 1982, a few months earlier than expected. Derek was a member of the AF-ROTC while attending high school. Excelling in school, he graduated early from Ruston High School in Ruston, La and joined the United States Air Force attending Basic training at Lackand AFB. After basic training and tech school, TSgt Langford proceeded to Tyndall AFB as a ground telementry apprentice. He cross trained in 2004 and proceeded to Creech AFB,NV as a Communications Maintainer. During this time, Derek had been deployed to Afghanistan twice and to Iraq. He also spent a year at South Korea at Kunsan AFB . Later, he was once again assigned to Creech AFB when he returned from South Korea as a Cyber Transport Technician, part of the 799th Air Base Group. He dedicated eight years of service at the RPA mission at Creech AFB, enabling countless missions and aiding the warfighter through steadfast and loyal communication support. He had been a proud member of the Air Force for the past 13 years, continuing his education while serving in the military.

Derek was also a very humorous, kind and gentle soul. He loved to make you happy if you were sad and would help anyone that needed it. He loved motorcycles and had been an avid and natural sport bike rider. In high school, he was a very good skateboarder and loved being with his friends in Ruston skateboarding around town. Always a problem solver, he would always be repairing some item for someone, being electronic or mechanical. Derek was a true "geek and gear head". There was not much that he could not fix. He would always find a way to make something work or work better. He had also become involved with geo caching. Derek was seldom seen, with the exception of his military issue footwear, without a pair of "Chuck's" on. Converse All Stars had been his shoe of choice for over 13 years. He loved movies and also loved being on the hunt for that retro/antique bargain. But above all of that, his loved his daughter Jordan. Her ray of sunshine came into his life 5 years ago and brought him so much joy. Jordan was the light of his life and he was always so proud of her. She was his heart and he loved her so much.

Derek had so much of Louisiana's rich history in his genes, being a decedent of the Lafitte's, DeSoto's and St. Denis. Preceding in death was his grandfather J.P. Langford

Leaving to cherish his memory his daughter Jordan Langford, mother Jana Smith, brother Stephen Langford and wife Cassie Langford, maternal grandmother Alice Bates Prudhomme (Granny), maternal grandfather Kenneth Smith (Paw Paw) and wife Kay, aunt Tanya Smith Brooks, aunt Amber Prudhomme, great uncle Herman Bates and wife Faye, cousin Preston Bates, nieces Margot Langford and Alice Langford.

Also surviving Derek is his father Steve Langford, paternal grandmother Eva Langford, aunt Susan Stine and husband Greg, aunt Sheryl Bellar, uncle David Langford, cousins Elizabeth Barker, Cody Langford, Jennifer Prock and Michael Prock.

He also leaves many special friends in the Las Vegas area that are also have been close as a family and he loved them very much.

Visitation was Tuesday afternoon at Rose Neath funeral home in Mansfield, La.

Full military honor graveside Services will be at Carmel Cematary at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 28, 2013.
