Virginia Cook Woodard
Virginia Cook Woodard was born February 26, 1922 in Ringgold, LA to Dr. E. C. and Maggie Cook. She died September 30, 2012 in Tulsa, OK. She attended Louisiana Normal College where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma. In 1941, she married Don E. Woodard. Virginia's primary joy in life was sharing her home with family and friends. She will be remembered as a generous hostess, fabulous cook, and loving, devoted friend. Virginia produced intricate needlework and was a talented dressmaker. She loved growing flowers and feeding birds in her garden. She was an avid reader and faithful member of her monthly book group for fifteen years. Travel was a pleasure that took her across the United States. Virginia was a member of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, Wesley Fellowship Class in which she served as secretary, and United Methodist Women. Becoming a member of The PEO Sisterhood in 1970, she embodied PEO, serving as President, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Chaplain and working as a committed and creative fundraiser on behalf of women's education. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Don and her daughters Margaret Kay and Pamela Ann. She is survived by daughter Lynn Woodard Lee of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Chip and Kelly Jo Lee and great-grandson Vaughn Lee of Roeland Park, KS; granddaughter Katie Lee of Highland Park, NJ. Graveside service will be Saturday, March 23, 1:30 p.m. at Providence Cemetery, Ringgold. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local chapters of the American Parkinson Disease Association; Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; or Providence Cemetery, Ringgold, LA by mail or online.
