Dr. William Sidney Hunt

Shreveport, LA - A memorial service for Dr. William Sidney Hunt, 68, of Shreveport, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 500 Common Street, with Dr. Pat Day officiating. A private burial will precede the service under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home. Dr. Hunt passed away on February 5, 2013, surrounded by family after fighting a courageous battle
Dr. Hunt grew up in Haynesville, Louisiana. After graduating high school, he studied pre-medicine at Louisiana Tech University for three years. He married Gaynel Rose Neyrey in December, 1967. After completing medical school in 1969, he and Gay moved to Shreveport for internship and residency and welcomed the first of their three children, Glen David. After two years in Shreveport (and the addition of William Christopher to the family), Dr. Hunt was asked to serve his country in the Army at Fort Bliss in EI Paso, Texas and then Fort Polk in DeRidder, Louisiana. His medical knowledge and compassionate nature benefitted many soldiers returning from the Vietnam War
. Upon completion of his tour, Dr. Hunt joined Highland Clinic, was blessed with a daughter, Emily Lynne, and continued to practice Internal Medicine until 2012. Understanding the immeasurable value of family and friends, Dr. Hunt was at his happiest when attending his grandchildren's sporting events with his wife, running his bird dogs, and hunting with those he loved, admired, and respected.
Dr. Hunt is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Gaynel Hunt; sons, Glen Hunt and wife, Sherita, of Franklinville, North Carolina, and Chris Hunt and wife, Stacy, of Monroe; daughter, Emily Horton and husband, Brian, of Shreveport; grandchildren, Aaron, Ethan, Catherine, and Elisabeth Doyal Hunt, of Monroe, Anna Rose and John Sidney Horton, of Shreveport, and Anna and Andrew Poteat and Sydney and CeCe Hunt, of North Carolina; sisters, Sue Frye and husband, David, of Homer, and Cindy Murray and husband, Dennis, of Shreveport; parents Farnum and Mary Ellon Hunt of Haynesville; and a wealth of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Charles Frye, Dennis Murray, Dr. Joe Paine, Dr. Bob Massingill, Dr. Dean Griffen, and Mr. Buzz Kemper.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Anil Nanda and Rebecca Williams of LSU Health Shreveport, Dr. Robert Massingill, Dr. Roscoe Chan and the staff of Christus Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center for their benevolent care of Dr. Hunt. Also, the family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Joe Paine, Dr. Dean Griffen and Nina Parsons.
