William Sweet

William K. (Bill) Sweet

SHREVEPORT, LA-A memorial service celebrating the life of William K. Sweet will be held at 11:00 AM at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel on Thursday, November 7, 2013. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM prior to service.

After 83 years of living a great life and a lengthy, hard fought battle with illness, William K. (Bill) Sweet went to his well-earned rest on November 3, 2013.

Born on November 23, 1930 in Johnson City, TN, he grew up on a farm in Abbingdon, VA, joined the United States Air Force, and was transferred to Barksdale AFB in 1954. After leaving the service with an honorable discharge, he chose to make Shreveport-Bossier his home.

Bill was an original and lived life to the fullest. He was generous with his time and resources and collected friends wherever he went. He loved hunting, golf, traveling , and just about any sport he could play, including softball, horseshoes, pool, and he would rather watch NFL football than anything else.

He was a great patriarch and much loved by his large, extended family, including those by blood and the many he "adopted" along the way. He was as good a friend as you could want, and was always interested in trying to help you. He loved to laugh, flirt, tell jokes, enjoyed a tad of Old Charter, and his loved ones would come to him for his wisdom. Bill loved the Lord and his values reflected his faith.

Bill leaves his devoted wife of 37 years, Sarah Golden Sweet; two sons, David and wife Kepo of Virginia and Michael and wife Debbie of Houston, TX; and daughter, Olivia Coverston and husband, Rick of Greenwood, LA; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials in Bill's honor may be made to Moose Charities, 155 S. International, Mooseheart, IL or Moosecharity.org.
