Carr

SHREVEPORT, LA - Celebration of Life services for Evelyn Joyce Forshee Carr, 84, will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2011, at First Baptist Shreveport, Frost Chapel, with Terrell Earnest minister in the Church of Nazarene and Steve McCormick of Nazarene Theological Seminary officiating. Internment will follow at the Centuries Memorial Park, Shreveport, Louisiana. The family will be receiving friends for visitation Sunday, September 18, 2011, from the hours of 5-8 p.m. at Centuries.

Mrs. Evelyn Carr was born July 14, 1927, in Belleview, Louisiana, to the late Olie Earnest Forshee, Sr. and Pearl Rains Forshee. Evelyn was called to her heavenly home September 15, 2011, in Shreveport, Louisiana surrounded by family. Evelyn had been a member of First Baptist Shreveport for eleven years. She gave her life to serving others…her family, friends, and church. While serving in the Nazarene Church she was church secretary, Vacation Bible School Director for 17 years, church choir member and Sunday school teacher. In the First Baptist Church, she served in prayer ministries, visited and cared for the sick, and participated in the Sanctuary Choir and The Singing Seniors Choir. Evelyn served faithfully in the Louisiana Gideon Auxiliary serving as Chaplain, Vice President, and State President for 3 years. She loved gardening and was most content while watering and caring for her flowers. While being a loving homemaker, Evelyn worked with her husband in the family business, Carr's Camera Repair, and gave fifty years of dedicated service. Evelyn will be remembered as a beloved wife, devoted mother, caring sibling, doting grand and great-grandmother, a trusted friend and devout Christian to those who knew her.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Olie Forshee, Jr.; sisters, Mary Scott and Marlene Williams. She is survived by her sister, Peggy Mervine.

Left to cherish those sweet memories of Evelyn Carr will be her devoted husband of 65 years; Elmer Kirk Carr, her three daughters; Roxie Murphy and husband Darell of Dallas, TX; Donna Earnest and husband Terrell of Yukon, OK; and Patricia McCormick and husband Steve of Kansas City, KS, 4 grandchildren: Kirk Gunter, Kimberly Zerby, Kristie Vann, and Jeremy Gunter, and 5 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a gracious thank you to Heritage Manor South, LifePath Hospice, Home Instead and Synergy Home Care, First Baptist Church and Centuries Memorial.

Honoring Evelyn as pallbearers will be Joe Dean, Jeremy Gunter, Kirk Gunter, Darell Murphy, Matthew Vann, and Scott Zerby. Honorary pallbearers: David Evans, Bud Levitt and John Shaw.

The family has requested donations be made to The Gideon International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, Tennessee 37214-0800 - 1-615-564-5000 - in Memory of Mrs. Evelyn Joyce Forshee Carr.

I remember her as Curtis Martin's Auint, who lived in the Werner Park area of Shreveport. All fine Nazarene Church people. Husband - owner of Carr's Camera Shop, I believe on Linwood Ave. The "good-ole days!" God bless her!

Dear Family of Sister Carr:

I was greatly saddened to hear about "Mrs. Carr's" passing... She was one of the sweetest Ladies I've ever known (Mr Carr also is a gentleman of the highest order). Just wanted y'all to know that my prayers are with you. As you know Curtis Martin I still consider "My Best Friend" and I know that he is in morning for Evelyn, too. I will always consider ALL OF YOU as my eternal Nazarene Family and best of friends. Always, Steven Hitt

That Heavenly Choir must be something to behold with Sis Carr and my mother (Sis Ruth Pruett Adkison)and so many other wonderful friend/Saints we knew that have gone on. Sis Carr will always hold a precious spot in my heart, such a sweet and wonderful "LADY" with a smile. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you and may your beautiful memories keep you smiling and living for that grand day when you will meet again. Love to all...

My parents and my brother Larry and I grew up in the same church and the same neighborhood with Elmer, Evelyn, and their three daughters. A wonderful, loving, Christian family that touched so many lives over the years. Please accept my sympathy upon Evelyn's passing. And may you all cry and laugh as you remember her life.

My Dearest Sympathy to all of you. I am sorry to learn of Mrs. Carr's passing, but I know she has gone on to be with the Lord. She & I had many conversations on politics and remain a great memory of my life. I also enjoyed sitting at her dinner table with Elmer and eating some of the best meals Mrs. Carr had prepared. I especially remember the biscuits. But the greatest memory I have, is one of the prettiest daughters she gave a life to, Patricia. Steve you are a lucky man. My thoughts and prayers are lifted high for all of you.
