Grady Neeson Obituary

Henry Grady Neeson, Jr.

Shreveport, LA- Henry Grady Neeson Jr., was born on June 8, 1927 in Benton, LA to Eulalie J. Hanks Neeson & Henry Grady Neeson Sr. He was ushered into the presence of the Lord, by the Angels of God on December 8, 2015 at the age of 88. "To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord". 2 Corinthians 5:8.

Grady married the love of his life, Helon Anderson Neeson and they were blessed with 71 years of marriage, raising their three children in Shreveport. They always affirmed they "would do it all over again".

At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served until the end of WWII. Upon his return stateside, he began a career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He retired after 20 years, to manage his real estate property and continued doing so until his health declined in 2012.

Grady accepted Jesus into his heart at an early age. He served in music ministry, as a Sunday School teacher, as a Deacon, and working on many church building programs. He loved his family & it was his desire that his children would come to know the Lord and to teach them integrity. Words cannot really express what a wonderful, compassionate, and selfless person he was.

He enjoyed traveling with family, gardening, cooking and researching his family heritage, which included numerous founding members of Shreveport & the Parish of Caddo.

He is predeceased by his parents, Eulalie &Henry G. Neeson Sr. and four sisters. Grady is survived by his loving wife Helon Anderson Neeson; son Richard G. Neeson & wife Sandy of Fort Worth, TX; daughter Brenda N. Lyons & husband William of Shreveport, LA.; son Damon W. Neeson & wife Kim of Shreveport, LA., Grandchildren: Stacie Lyons of Shreveport, LA., Holly Cohen (Alan) of Austin, TX, Amy Weatherly (Brad) of Arlington, TX., Richey Neeson (Ashley) of Fort Worth, TX., Sarah Sazama (T.J.) of Denver, CO., Clint Lyons (Leighanne) of Shreveport, LA.; Joshua Neeson (Livia) of Covington, LA.; Jessica Baker (Jeremy) of Shreveport, LA.; Emily Jones (Michael) of Shreveport, LA.; and was blessed with twelve great grandchildren.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Seborn Woods for his many years of care and friendship, Montclair Memory Care Unit, Dr. Roy Fleniken and the entire staff at the Northwest LA War Veterans Home and Regional Hospice, for providing exceptional care and support.

There will be a visitation at Centuries Memorial from 9: 30-10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015 and graveside services officiated by Reverend Mike Anderson immediately following. Pall bearers: Richey Neeson, Clint Lyons, Joshua Neeson, Brad Weatherly, Alan Cohen and David Lowrey.
