O.L. Gore Obituary

O.L. "Sonny" Gore, Jr.

O. L. "Sonny" Gore, Jr. passed away at LifeCare Thursday, August 11, 2016 after a nearly four-month struggle with injuries suffered in a tractor accident April 23, 2016. His funeral service will be held Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Plain Dealing Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Teutsch officiating. Burial will be in the Plain Dealing Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing, LA. Visitation will precede the service in the church sanctuary at 1:30 p.m. Sonny was born on February 13, 1940 to Odie Lee and Sylvia Cobb Gore. He was a 1958 graduate of Plain Dealing High School and a 1963 graduate of Louisiana Tech in Agriculture. He loved the land where he was born and that he farmed in the Red River Valley in north Bossier Parish. The time spent with friends and family dove hunting and duck hunting are cherished as favorite memories. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and always reminded them how much he loved them. He was a member of the Plain Dealing Baptist Church. He was also a member of the North Bossier Levee Board and several farm organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Wilma Goodman and Mariella Kimbrell. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jack Gore; three children, Jamie Smith and husband, David; Brad Gore and wife, Lori; and Peaches Haynes and husband, Andy. Also surviving their "Pa" are ten grandchildren; Drew Smith, Sam Smith, Lily Smith, Jackie Smith, Matthew Gore, Molly Gore, Mitchell Gore, Drew Haynes, Sarah Haynes and Claire Haynes; one great-grandchild, Hayley Smith and two sisters, Lila Vaughan and Glenda Haynes. Pallbearers will be Jerry Dick Barnett, Rodney Bellar, Jackie Byrd, Vernon Crawford, Riley McElhanon, Jerry Griggs, Jerry Hartzo, Henry Keeth and Gary Don Murray. Honorary pallbearers are Fred McKellar and Pete New. The family would like to thank all the churches and individuals who consistently prayed for Sonny; Dr. Dujon and the nursing staff in SICU at University Health, Dr. Hernandez and Dr. Howard, and our lifeCare family - especially Lana, Wesley, Ryan, Chemere, Allen, Bertha, Debe, Angela and Michelle. Memorials gifts may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the charity of one's choice. Sign the online guest book at www.baileyfuneralhome.net

Our hearts go out to your family. Sonny is a cousin I have not seen for many, many years but I remember visiting Uncle Odle Lee and Aunt Sylvai on their farm with Mother & Daddy (Mother was Marjorie Cobb Hegwood, sister to Sylvia) when we were so young! So sad to hear of his passing! Our deepest sympathy & prayers to the family!

Sending prayers to all of the family and friends of Mr. Gore. Mrs. Gore was one of my favorite teachers at Plain Dealing High School. She made learning fun. A class trip to Springhill to watch the movie The King And I was a highlight of my 2 1/2 years as a student there.

I am so sorry to hear this. Praying for your family at this time. I am a cousin of Sonny's. I am one of the daughters of Hoye and Marjorie Cobb Hegwood. My mother was Sylvia's younger sister. Remember as a child visiting them on the farm once.
