Belva Williams Allen

SHREVEPORT, LA - Belva Williams Allen passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Live Oak Retirement Community. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., on Saturday, January 14, 2012, in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Avenue, in Shreveport. Officiating will be Ronney Joe Webb of First Baptist Church of Shreveport and interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery on the east side of St. Vincent Avenue. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2012, at Osborn Funeral Home.

Belva was born in Bienville Parish on November 25, 1909, and was a resident of Shreveport for most of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shreveport for over fifty years. Belva worked for several years at the Book Mart and was a member of the "Sewing Bee." She enjoyed cooking, traveling, sewing, reading, and collecting antiques.

Belva was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Barney Allen; daughters, Belva Jane Poindexter and Jo Ann Rountree; and grandson, Robert Allen Rountree. She is survived by her three granddaughters and their spouses, Allison Rountree Palmer and husband, Larry, Lisa Poindexter Horvath and husband, Ryne, and Susan Rountree Perkins and husband, John. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, five great, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Honoring Belva as pallbearers will be Larry Palmer, Ryne Horvath, John Perkins, Robert Vinet, David Horvath, Jack Perkins, and Henry Perkins.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Alan Borne, the nurses and staff on the West Wing of Live Oak, Willis-Knighton Hospice, and her special caregivers Phyllis, Tracy, and Sharon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Heritage Room, First Baptist Church, 543 Ockley Drive, Shreveport, LA, 71106, or to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, Post Office Box 4196, Monroe, Louisiana 71211-4196.

Belva was an inspiration to her family, who were blessed to be a part of her life.
