BOSSIER CITY, LA - Rev. Bernard Lamar Powers, 85, passed away on Sunday February 13, 2011 at his residence. Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Springhill Cemetery, Springhill, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Harper of Bellaire Baptist Church where he was a member.

Rev. Powers was a resident of Bossier City, LA for fifty years. He was a retired Pastor of Parkway Baptist Church and served as Pastor in Arkansas and Louisiana for many years.

Rev. Powers was preceded in death by his parents, James Lee and Lena Lee Jarnagin Powers; two brothers, Rev. A. R. Powers and Jimmy L. Powers. He is survived by two nieces, Pam Powers Moore and Barbara J. Baethe; two nephews, Jimmy Powers and Michael Powers; two sisters-in-law, Jean Powers and Louise Powers; several great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorials be made to Bellaire Baptist Church, South Campus, Bossier City, LA.

I was so saddend to hear of the passing of Bro.Powers!!! He was there when I was born nearly 39 yrs ago and was there to help through the passing of my mother 24 yrs ago. I talked to Brother Powers just before I left for Army bootcamp in Aug. What a true treasure we have lost but I know he is right where he always wanted to be, Smiling down from Heaven!! God Bless his sweetest soul!!
