Billy Joe Walker

Funeral services for Mr. Billy Joe Walker, age 88, will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana with the Rev. Richard Exley officiating. Interment will follow in Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the service immediately following.

Mr. Walker was born on June 22, 1925 in Burkburnett, Texas, to the late Andrew Jackson and Ruth Walker, and entered into rest on Friday, July 26, 2013 in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was a combat veteran of both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. In 1960, he married the former Alice Lorena Fletcher of Daingerfield, Texas, and the couple moved to Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, where their son Charles was born. Their daughter Susan was born while the family was stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Thereafter, the family accompanied Mr. Walker to his postings at Izmir Air Station, Turkey; England Air Force Base, Louisiana; and Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany. Following his military retirement in 1974 at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, Mr. Walker worked for many years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Shreveport, LA. He was a faithful member of Gateway Church where he was active in his Sunday school class. He enjoyed golf, travel, big band music, reading Western fiction and spending time with his family.

Mr. Walker is preceded in death by his brothers Charles and Andrew Walker and his sister Mavis Bert.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Lorena Walker of Bossier City; son, Charles Walker and wife Vergie of Shreveport; daughter, Susan Walker Collum and husband Michael of Bossier City; and his beloved grandsons, Bradley Nixon Walker, David Alexander Walker, Jack Walker Collum and William Michael Collum.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons Bradley, David and Jack, his nephew Chad Campbell, Evan Dowden, and Grant Cherry.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Benjamin Li and the staff of Colonial Oaks Guest Care and Gamble Hospice Care.
