Bonnie Rose Shelton Hall Chambers

Bonnie Rose Shelton Hall Chambers, 87, of Shreveport, passed away in her home on July 22, 2012. She was born April 8,1925 in Mansfield, Louisiana. A celebration of her life and love will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Bethel No.1 Baptist Church,12535 Mansfield Rd., Keithville,Louisiana, Dr. Toussaint Battley, Jr., Pastor. Dr. Dwayne Johnson, Pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Shreveport will officiate. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Cemetery on the Mansfield Road. The family will receive friends at Hopewell Baptist Church on Friday, July 27, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Bonnie was a lifelong member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Shreveport for over 75 years, and continued in her faith devoting herself to numerous church ministries. Her greatest joy was teaching the Junior Boys' Sunday School class. She even taught the present pastor, Dr. Johnson. Her community affiliations include being a dedicated member of Erma S. Lee Chapter 170 of the Order of Eastern Star for over 40 years, and served as a Past Matron. She was also a member of the Las Fileles Ladies' Social Club for approximately 20 years.

She was an alumnus of Central Colored High School and later received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Grambling State University. She continued her education at what was formerly known as Northeast State University in Monroe, Louisiana, earning a Master of Science Degree in Education. She served as an educator in Desoto, Red River, Bossier, and Caddo Parishes. After giving over 30 years of service, she retired from the Bossier Parish School System with numerous accolades, including Teacher of the Year. Because of her passion for teaching young people, she continued to substitute teach until this past school year and was looking forward to the upcoming school year. She was loved very much by her students because of her enthusiasm, encouragement, and generosity.

Everybody knew Bonnie. She had a love for life and made others "feel good" when she was around. Her outgoing personality was infectious and she could make you smile even when you didn't feel like it. She never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, young or old. She embraced life and loved helping people. She was a great Christian, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. Her light is no longer shining here on earth, but she is among God's other angels to watch over us left behind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers. She was also preceded by her husband Burnis Hall, second husband Rev. Clarence Chambers, and son, Dr. Anthony Lamar Hall, Sr.

She is survived by her daughter, Adrienne Hall Newhouse (Hermon) of Longview, Texas; four grandchildren, Crystal Newhouse of Dallas, Texas; Gabriel Newhouse (Jenia) of Dallas, Texas; Anthony Lamar Hall, Jr of Houston, Texas; and China Hall of Evansville, Indiana; and one great-grandson, Christian Lamar Hall of Evansville, Indiana; her very loving nieces and nephews, and numerous families and friends.

Because of her love for learning, in lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Hopewell Baptist Church for a scholarship fund to be initiated in her honor.

Mrs. Hall was one of our favorite teachers ... one that we all kept in contact with years after graduation. I spoke with her recently and was reminded, once again, why she was so special to all of us. I looked forward to speaking with her at least once a year for the last 40 years and my what a time we had. When she was able to visit California, we all made time to visit with her. She was a gueen and we honor her for who she was in each of our lives ... Thanks, Adrienne, for sharing her with us. She will be sorely missed...

To Adrienne~
Such a comforting and sweet spirit is worth celebrating. Mrs. Bonnie shared an exciting life with my mother, Mrs. Hazel Moss Burks and my father Coach John "Pro" Moss. She's been a fixture in my life 'forever' and what a time we've shared. She was full of life, love, and vigor. She loved my mom and my mom loved her. I will never forget her and can only smile whenever she crosses my mind. Keep the memories alive through your love for her. They will surely put a smile in your heart.

Mrs. Hall. It is so hard to put into words how this lady influenced my life. Today, I am known as "The Voice"/ "The Mentor". I met her at Central Elementary. She saw my potential, embraced me,took me by the hand and taught me articulate. To smile, and to hold my head high when I speak. Thanks to this lady of CLASS, I forgot my color, and I knew I was just as good as anyone else. I am thankful for my season of knowing Mrs. Hall
