Charles Sooby Obituary

CHARLES THOMAS SOOBY

1954-2012

Little Rock, Arkansas - As I always say, it's just another day in paradise. I'm Charles Sooby and I was born February 23, 1954 in Larned, Kansas to James Harold and Dorthea Alice Sooby. We moved to Dallas, Texas when I was in second grade and I lived most of my life in Dallas and Shreveport. I went peacefully to rest at Arkansas Hospice Inpatient in Little Rock on February 10, 2012, surrounded by my loving family.

I attended the University of Texas and received my Bachelors of Arts in Journalism at North Texas State University. I was lucky to work for H&E Equipment Services as a salesman and manager for 27 years; they are my second family.

My father and grandparents preceded me in death. I am survived by my wife, Rhonda Wolfe Sooby, my daughter, Elizabeth Sooby of College Station, TX, my two stepsons, Austin and Clay Lohnes of Shreveport, LA, and my mother Dorthea Sooby of Carrollton, Texas, and our Labrador Dixie. I am also survived by my brother, Bill Struble of Lawrence, KS, my three sisters: Jane Pelzl and her husband Joel of New Braunfels, TX, Alice Friend and her husband Eric of The Colony, TX, and Gerry Nichols and her husband Doug of Carrollton, TX, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

My favorite local charities are Providence House and Habitat for Humanity in Shreveport, LA. If you'd like to make a donation in my memory, I'd be thrilled.

10-4 good buddy, over and out.

Services will be conducted at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Shreveport, LA on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

I love you. I can hear you saying "I love you very much". I love you very much, too. Thank you so much for the beautiful necklace you gave me for Valentine's Day! I can't believe you did that and you were so sick and you did that without me knowing! All you ever did was worry about me! So sweet to do that. Thank you and you will always be my Valentine. I love you a whole bunch. Don't worry about a thing. Look for me. I love you. Love, Rhonda

Charlie,
I have told you everything I wanted to say. Now that time has passed, I want to add this: you would be so proud of Rhonda and Elizabeth and the way they have been able to carry on. I know their grief is overwhelming. They are both such wonderful people. I know they were the most important things in your life. Donna and my world will never be the same.

Rhonda, words seem so small when your loss is so great we hear them, we understand them, and we are so thankful for each one but somehow the heart just can not feel them... take comfort in the small every day reminders that Sooby will send your way just something small and simple that only your heart will know and take peace in knowing that you will once again be together .. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and love you very much....The Pooles

I am so saddened to learn of Charles' passing. We were good friends many years ago at Woodrow but lost touch recently. Reading the many fine tributes to Charles, it makes me happy to know that he led a good, happy, productive life. I never knew Rhonda but her love for Charles comes through loud and clear in her comments. He was a lucky guy to have her in his life. Best wishes to her and the rest of the family. RIP Charles, we'll miss you.

Sooby, I'll never forget when Kelly and I met you and Rhonda in Jamaica.I felt like it was an instant friendship. When we heard of your passing we wept. We weep because we are selfish, we want more of you. As time goes by we know you are in a better more peaceful place. My regrets are we didn't live closer and see more of you. But knowing how we spent the few times together that could have been dangerous. You lived life to the fullest and were truly a southern gentlemen.I know we were only together a short amount of time but you were truly a friend.Friends are like stars you don't always see them but you know they are there. Heaven is a better place and a whole lot more fun.Our life is truley blessed for you being in it. It is an honour to call you our friend

Charlie, no words can express the aching in my heart when I heard of your passing. You were a true friend; Time would pass between visits/emails, but we could always pick right up where we left off as if no time had passed. You will always be in my heart, in my thoughts, and especially in my prayers. There is a time for everything; even though our earthly minds cannot conceive or answer the "why" when a person like you dies. Your life on this earth was fruitful and blessed. Your earthly body may be here on this earth, but your heavenly body is whole and healthy, dancing around heaven in splendor. I miss you dearly. Your friend,

Chip

Milbus - it was a hell of a run. You were the best friend I ever had and I will miss you terribly - hell I already do. As much as my gut hurt from laughing so hard so many times with you - my heart hurts twice as much now. We had so much fun and I will never forget the times we had. Thanks for always being there. I love you and Rhonda.

I remember the first time I ever saw Charlie in the second grade at Wm. Lipscomb Elementary school, he was wearing shorts which was unheard of at that time and I thought that was pretty cool. The next year we were in the same class and became great friends. We shared a lot during those school years all the way through high school and roomed together for a year in college. That gave me the honor and privelege of knowing what kind of man Charlie truly was. He had the rare combination of intelligence, great sense of humor, loyalty and compassion. He was a great friend. The world is less bright with his absence and I will miss him terribly. My heartfelt condolonces go out to Charlie's family. Linda and my thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.

My sincere condolences to the family. I met Charles many years ago and he helped my company (in 1990) Gemini Explorations, Inc. to purchase a Tac hoe and we have been friends since then. We are going to miss Charles he was a wonderful man and we are very sorry for your loss Rhonda. We met when you were living in Shreveport but it was a while back. My very best to your family. Sooby: I have always loved this picture of you. It was made the day we were married. 05/05/05 Las Vegas, NV. So much fun! We made a great team. Good grief, aside from work, was there anywhere we did not go together? I had a blast, and I won't ever forget. I'm so sorry you got sick and I would go back and take care of you all over again, just wishing for a different outcome. But still, I would do it again. I'll remember what you told me in all the late night/early morning talks. I'll miss you like crazy. I'll love you, always. Look for me. I love you. Love, Rhonda

We have fond memories of greeting Charles and Rhonda as they passed from one end of the soccer field to the other at half time so Charles could be on the same end where Elizabeth was playing goalkeeper at Millsaps College. Enjoyed watching Charles, the proud father. Our thoughts and prayers for peace at this time for the Sooby family.

Charles hired me at H&E two years ago this January. I had the privilege to work closely with him on a daily basis and will miss having him as my manager. Charles was there to offer advice through a rough time in my life and I appreciate it deeply. I had a chance to meet his daughter at the AR/LSU game in 2010. He spoke about her often and I know he loved her very much and was an extremely proud daddy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in their time of loss.
