GREENWOOD, LA- Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothy Attaway Peters Vaughan, 93, will be held at 12 noon Saturday August 24, 2013 at the Open Range Fellowship Church in Greenwood, LA with Pastor Dennis Aaron officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 a.m. until services time at the church.
Dorothy was born on April 22, 1920 in Marshall, TX to Alonzo Clifton Attaway and Opal Anderson Attaway. She passed away on August 22, 2013 in Shreveport. She resided most of her life in Greenwood. After retiring from Barksdale Air Force Base after 26 years of service, she and her husband, "Bud" traveled by RV with the Full Gospel Men's Fellowship. She was active in her faith and led her life as a servant for the Lord. She experienced great pleasure making pralines and her famous apricot pies and giving them to her family and friends. She was a member of DAR and a local Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Peters, Jr. and her second husband, John B. Vaughan, Sr. her brothers, Clifton, Garlin and Abe Attaway; sister, Bettie Davidson. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Clarence "Pete" Peters III, and wife, Gloria of Mansfield, LA; grandson, Cory Peters of Mansfield, LA; sister, Peggy Connell of Bay City, TX; brother, Harold Attaway and wife, Melba of Bulverde, TX. She loved all her nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as "Aunt Dot". She also loved her extended family, Betty Davidson Vaughan, Betty Vaughan, John and wife Linda Vaughan and Baron and wife, Anna Vaughan and all of her step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Marc, Jeff and David Davidson, Bret, Aaron and Todd Attaway. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken, Ric, and Kip Attaway and Justin Davidson.
Special thanks to Dr. R. Sipes and the staff at Heritage Manor South. Oh how she loved her sisters, in Christ, Maxine, Montez, Derryle, Cindy and Maribeth. Thank you for your visits, gifts and for praying for her and with her.
