Ernest Scott Woodard, Sr
RINGGOLD, LA - Funeral services for E. S. Woodard, known as "Big Scotty" to his family and "Scotty" to his friends, 92, of Ringgold, LA will be held Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 10:00 am in First United Methodist Church of Ringgold, LA. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery in Ringgold with Rev. Bill Foster and Rev. Stephanie Kidd officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold, LA from 5:00 - 8:00 pm.
A life-long resident of Bienville Parish, he was born August 9, 1921 in Ringgold, LA and passed away September 2, 2013 at his home. He was a 1938 graduate of Ringgold High School. Scotty went to John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR and served in the United States Army for a short time.
He was very active in the farming community, raising cotton, beef and dairy cattle. Lately he had become involved with forestry and the gas and oil production. He and his family have been very active members of Ringgold First United Methodist Church for many, many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A. E. Woodard and Lottie Scott Woodard; his wife, Molly Bell Covey; daughter, Suzanne Huckaby; a grandson, Clay Huckaby; and a sister, Ruth Mitchell.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Larene Woodard of Ringgold, LA; son, Ernest Scott Woodard, Jr and his wife, Mary Claire Woodard of Sherman, TX; daughter, Stephanie Woodard of Phoenix, AZ;
grandchildren, Cecilia Ann DeToye of Sherman, TX, Michelle Huckaby Lewis of Great Falls, VA, Ernest Scott Woodard III of Alabaster, AL, Alfred Ernest Woodard II of Covington, LA, Christopher Finn Woodard of San Antonio, TX, Kristen Cottrell Allen of San Antonio, TX, Lauren Tingle Richardson of Bossier City, LA and Mollie Cottrell of Phoenix, AZ; seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Scott Woodard III, Alfred Ernest Woodard II, Christopher Finn Woodard, Scott Richardson, Christian Lane, and Tyler Woodard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buddy Light, Marion Leshe, Randall Weems, James Bogan, Enyart Mitchell, and Bro. James Nailes.
The family would like to especially thank his nephew, Bob Mitchell for taking care of him and Delitha Huckabay for her professional services and loving care. They would also like to thank James and Helen Bogan, Becky Thornton, Lanora Nailes, Amy Bogan, and Lindsey Gray.
