BOSSIER CITY, LA - A native Missourian, Harold Benton Knox was the only son of William and Ida Loafman Knox of Campbell, MO. Born September 4, 1915, he died May 30, 2012 at Riverview Care Center in Bossier City, LA. He graduated from Campbell High School and studied Old and New Testament at McKendree College in Lebanon, IL.
He married the former Mary Katherine Todd December 25, 1940. They have one son, Harold Todd Knox and daughter-in-love, Shirley-Paul.
Sgt. Knox was one of the Greatest Generation, serving his country during World War II in the South Pacific, seeing action as a combat medic in the Netherlands, East Indies and the Philippines. Later he chose an Air Force career and retired on May 30, 1964 as a Certified Dental Laboratory Technician. He retired a second time from Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA with over 30 years with the Federal Government, receiving several citations and recommendations.
Harold was an ordained Deacon serving in various church positions in Missouri, Illinois, Alaska and Louisiana. He was also on the Board of Trustees at Strong Place Baptist Church of Brooklyn, New York. His hobbies included travel, photography and landscape painting.
Their home for the last 55 years has been Bossier City, LA. His greatest battle in life was fighting Parkinson's disease. Funeral services were held June 5, 2012 at Landess Funeral Home in Campbell, MO. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery with Military Honors.
