Harry Lee Shovan
SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Harry Lee Shovan, 88, will be held at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 12:00 pm. Visitation will be prior to service between 10 and 12. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue. Officiating will be John Lorrick.
Harry was born on Oct. 11, 1923 to Dewey Paul and Etta Jane Shovan. Harry passed away on March 10, 2012, in Shreveport where he was a lifelong resident. Harry graduated from Byrd High School in 1942 and worked for J.B. Beard Corp. before entering the military service in Jan. 1943. He served in the U. S. 8th Air Force, 385th Bomb Group during WWII as a Flight Engineer and Upper Turret Gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress. Harry was a recipient of The European Theater Ribbon with 2 Campaign Stars.
Harry retired from South Central Bell Telephone Co. with over 41 years' service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, life member of the Communications Workers of America and a 35 year member of the American Legion Post 14. He was also a member of Sunset Acres Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Mavis Harper Shovan, children Cecelia Turney (Randy), Gary, Suzy Stutes (Jeff), Larry, and Randy, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
