Henry Wilkerson, Jr.
SHREVEPORT, LA - Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Henry Wilkerson, Jr., will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Mount Canaan Baptist Church, 1666 Alston Street, Shreveport, LA, Pastor Harry Blake, officiating. Interment will follow in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Family hour Friday, August 23, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Good Samaritan Funeral Home, 2200 Laurel Street, Shreveport.
Henry was born on July 10, 1933 and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 16, 2013 as a result of a lengthy illness. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1951; attended Southern University, then after a few years, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Later, he retired from the United States Navy and General Motors. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen Grace Wilkerson Brutus and Mae Ethel Wilkerson Moore; brothers Leon Wilkerson, J. T. Wilkerson and infant brother Edgar Vernon Wilkerson.
In addition to his son Terrence DeWitt Wilkerson, he leaves to cherish his memories, two stepdaughters Trina and Tanille; two sisters Kathryn Wilkerson Bell, Shreveport, Louisiana and Annie R. Wilkerson Wilson (Rudolph), Houston, Texas; one sister-in-law Atrie D. Wilkerson, Shreveport, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Rev. Harry Blake and the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church family, Rev. D. Z. Cofield and the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church family of Houston, Texas; the management and staff of The Bradford, Emeritus (The Kingsley Place), and the Gamble Hospice Care. We would also like to thank Willis Knighton - Pierremont, Dr. Wen Liu and Dr. Susan Ball.
